MamaWise offers childbirth classes, natural birth classes, birthing classes, baby classes, and natural birthing classes in Austin, TX.
I am currently teaching a six week series of childbirth classes. The classes are held in a warm, relaxed, environment. I cover all key topics, and like to leave plenty of opportunity for open discussion and Q&A. Ultimately, our goal is for everyone to take the time to focus on healthy Babies, healthy Mamas, healthy Dads or Partners and healthy Families.
My childbirth classes are comprehensive and cover information important throughout the pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum. Specific topics covered include:
It is ideal for you begin the class no later than 5 months into your pregnancy. This will give you plenty of time to complete the full childbirth course and be prepared well before your due date. If the timing has not worked out perfectly, please contact me and we'll discuss options.
Teaching a natural childbirth method that works:
Natural childbirth is an important goal since most people want to give their babies every possible advantage. Without the side effects of drugs given during labor and birth. The Bradley Method® childbirth classes teach families how to have natural births. The techniques are simple and effective. They are based on information about how the human body works during labor. Couples are taught how they can work with their bodies to reduce pain and make their labors more efficient. Of over 1,000,000 couples trained in The Bradley Method® natural childbirth nationwide, over 86% of them have had spontaneous, unmedicated vaginal births. This is a method that works!
Each couple receives a 130 page Student Workbook
Each Bradley Method Childbirth workbook contains the class curriculum, study guides, vocabulary, information on pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, coaches/doula training, ways of handling pain in labor, pre-birth bonding, staying healthy and low risk, nutrition, protein counter, general assignments, birth plans, relaxation exercises, labor rehearsals, certificate of congratulations, pictures and more. The workbook provides standardization and insures couples that their teacher is teaching according to today’s standard of classes in The Bradley Method® of Childbirth.
Excellent Birth Coach and Doula training
Birth Coaches face some special challenges in labor. They need special training as well as the mother. This is not a spectator sport! We begin by teaching the coach how to help her during pregnancy to be aware of things that help her be as healthy and low risk as possible. What to expect in the natural course of a birth, how to avoid unnecessary pain in labor, how to support and be an advocate for this mother. Coaches learn a series of relaxation techniques and effective labor and birth positions. The classes provide relaxation practice and labor rehearsals. They are designed to educate and motivate coaches and make them a valuable part of the childbirth experience.
Comprehensive Pregnancy and Birth Education
When you take my Bradley Method® Childbirth class you won't need most specialized birthing classes that are commonly offered. My classes cover it all: nutrition, exercise, being more comfortable during pregnancy, the birth coach's role, introductory information about labor and birth, advanced techniques for labor and birth, complications, cesarean sections, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and tips for caring for your new baby. Our classes cover a few topics that are rarely discussed in other classes like: how to reduce the need for an episiotomy and the likelihood of a tear, how to avoid needing a cesarean, how to make the best of it if a cesarean is necessary, and what the coach should do if the baby is accidentally born in the car.
Class sizes are intentionally small to foster individual attention
My classes average between 4-8 couples per class. Classes are kept small so that I can get to know you in order to gear the topics and training material that will best meet your needs. Smaller birthing classes are also important so that you will have the space to do plenty of practice in class. Studies have shown that the Hawthorne effect (the effect of personal attention) makes for better learning and successful results.
I obtained the Bradley Childbirth Educator certification in 2010 and am currently a Fully Affiliated Bradley Method instructor and Bradley Doula. I have undergone an extensive training program with the AAHCC™ and am required to complete continuing education requirements and re-affiliate every year.
Winter Series starts 2-28-17 Location: Landenberg PA Spring Series starts 4-25-17 Location:TBD
During my first pregnancy I attended a basic four week childbirth class at my Birth Center. However, once I was in labor, I realized that I was ill-equipped to handle my challenging back labor and that no one else could do it for me! In the end, my baby and I were healthy, but I had a hard time accepting my labor experience. When I became pregnant with my second child, my midwife suggested taking a Bradley Childbirth Class. My husband and I found the investment of our time led to a valuable education on labor and how to have the natural experience we desired. My second child was born at home, outside in the backyard in water. The labor was a transformative experience, and will always be one of my most precious accomplishments.
It’s an honor and a privilege to be able to help other families make informed decisions on their path to healthy pregnancies and wonderful birth.
